HARLIM

Contemporary Watercolor Artist

Harlim (b. 1945) is an Indonesian artist whose watercolor practice spans more than six decades. His paintings do not announce themselves loudly—they arrive softly, like memory returning.

Working with wash, breath, and open space, Harlim searches for what remains after intensity: quiet emotions, traces, and stillness. Figures, abstractions, and landscapes emerge as if half-remembered—held gently between fragility and strength.

His work has been featured in international publications, including 100 Ways to Paint Still-life and Floral (International Artist Magazine, USA) and Modern Indonesian Art: From Raden Saleh to the Present Day. Yet his practice remains grounded in humility: a lifelong devotion to seeing, and to letting watercolor speak in its own time.

My work explores what remains after intensity—quiet emotions, traces, and stillness.
In watercolor, I balance fragility and force through fluid marks and open space.
Each piece becomes a memory in motion: figure, abstraction, and landscape.
